Friday 19th February2010.I travelled from Rockhampton to Biloela, leaving about 3.30pm and arrived at “Cherry Park” Thangool at 5.30pm.This is where my cousin Trevor and his wife Barbara live.
We planned on an early start on Saturday for our long awaited trip to Gympie to go for a ride on The Mary Valley Rattler on Sunday 21st Feb. Our first stop was Gayndah where we refreshed ourselves with morning tea at the Bakery. Barbara had lived in Gayndah years ago so she knew just where to go. Off again travelling through Ban Ban Springs & Kilkiven, arriving at our motel about 11.30 am.
Then it was back in the car to go to Marcoola where we were having lunch with more rellies, Eddie & Margaret Dwight. After a lovely afternoon chatting and catching up on family it was back to the motel.
Sunday morning we were ready bright and early for our day of adventure. The train was leaving at 10am.We looked through the Station which is now a souvenir and coffee shop. There is also a magnificent Model Railway. There were 300 people booked on the train which goes from Gympie to Imbul.
There were lots of people dressed in period costumes on the platform. The train was carrying Gold Bullion so there had to be guards on the train too. The train stopped at Kadanga for refreshments and more craft stalls. When we arrived at Imbul the gold was unloaded and the guards were shot and the gold stolen. While we had lunch the robber was captured, and before boarding the train for the home run, he was whipped and taken to prison.
It was a very enjoyable day.
Monday we travelled home to Biloela, doing a bit of sightseeing at Gayndah.I arrived back in Rocky at 5pm.
